It is imperative that diabetics use extreme caution to avoid any type of foot injury. A secondary and sometimes, overlooked condition caused by diabetes is a weakening of small blood vessels. These weakened vessels are unable to transport oxygen and nutrients necessary for healing. In such cases, an infection can get so bad that the toes or foot may require amputation.
A great breakfast for a Diabetic is oatmeal! Be selective, though! Don’t buy the kind that comes in pouches and has tons of salt and sugar in it! Buy quick oats or regular rolled oats. Make it every morning for yourself. Top it with cinnamon and apples for a tasty meal!
Almonds are a great way to keep your sugar levels stabilized if you need a little snack. Unsalted almonds, especially raw ones, are packed with nutrients, protein and fiber to stabilize blood sugar and give you plenty of other health benefits. Keep a bowl of almonds around so you can snack on some while you relax.
Yogurt is an excellent way for a diabetic to convince their mouth that low-fat, sugar-free food IS enjoyable. Have a cup of non-fat yogurt mixed with seasonable fruit for breakfast with a high-fiber muffin and a glass of milk so that you’ll have enough energy to last you right through until lunch.
Do not skip meals, especially breakfast. When you let too much time lapse between meals or skip a meal completely, you risk having your blood glucose levels drop too low. Diabetics who eat breakfast, lunch and dinner without skipping any meals are much more likely to have normal glucose readings.
Make sure to take your diabetes medications exactly as directed. You are NOT a doctor, nor is anyone else giving you advice other than your physician. They tell you how often to take your prescriptions and how much you should take at a time because they know, so follow their directions.

Ask your Physician if they have any supply samples of your Diabetes medication or syringes. It is unlikely they will have monitors to give you, or test strips or lancets for that matter, but you can get those from your pharmacist instead. They often have monitors for free, so make sure to ask!
It is important to take proper care of diabetic feet. Any type of foot injury, no matter how small, should be immediately reported to a physician who can assess and treat the issue. Even the smallest sore on the foot can turn into an ulcer, creating a severe problem for a diabetic.
