Coping With Back Pain

When you experience a backache, lay with your hips and knees at approximately 90 degree angles. Laying in this position will improve comfort, which will decrease back pain more than most positions. You can also try other positions that bring relief, but avoid ones that twist the spine.

To help prevent back pain, never slouch while you are doing anything on your feet. For example, many people mistakenly bend over the entire time they vacuum. A slouched posture or constant bending will put extra strain on the muscles and can cause back pain flare-ups. Try to move a vacuum cleaner forward with the weight of leg muscles rather than using your back.

If you get chronic back pains, go to the chiropractor regularly to prevent more injuries from appearing. Serious back afflictions can often be avoided if you take care of small issues as they arise.

When your back pain is bad, try to quiet your muscle spasms. The best way to accomplish this is to just lay down and place a heating pad on the aching muscles. Drinking a good amount of fluids and cutting back on salt is a good way to reduce pain. Dehydration can actually cause or worsen spasms, so lots of liquids and minimal salt can be beneficial.
