Control Your Diabetes With These Tips

Properly handling diabetes can be difficult, especially if you do not know a lot about it. There are certain foods that you should eat, medicine that you may need to take and an exercise regimen that you may need to follow. The following tips can help you learn how to live a healthy and functioning life, even if you have diabetes.

If you’re working to lose weight and keep your Diabetes in check but can’t find any healthy breakfast options with protein that you enjoy, try a smoothie. You can buy protein powder at a health food store (make sure to ask if it has any sugar or artificial sweeteners) and you can put a scoop in to up the nutritional punch!

Stress can wreak havoc on a Diabetic’s mental health, but it will also cause problems physically as well. Try to do stress-relieving activities like exercise, yoga, or deep breathing exercises at the end of the day or during any situation that is particularly stressful to keep yourself calm, cool, and collected.

If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, I am sure you know how to check your blood sugar. You should check it before meals and at bedtime. This insures that if there is a sudden change in your blood sugar levels, you know in advance to address the situation in a timely fashion lest an emergency arise.

Ask your Physician if they have any supply samples of your Diabetes medication or syringes. It is unlikely they will have monitors to give you, or test strips or lancets for that matter, but you can get those from your pharmacist instead. They often have monitors for free, so make sure to ask!

It is important that you drink plenty of water each day if you have diabetes. Becoming dehydrated when you are diabetic can cause your blood sugar levels to go through the roof. The general rule of thumb is that you should drink one ounce of water for every 2.5 pounds of your body weight, each day.

Try to avoid alcohol when you are diabetic. Even small amounts of alcohol, especially beer, can dangerously raise your blood sugar. Many doctors are in agreement that having a glass of wine once in awhile is okay for diabetics, just do not have more than one glass and do not drink it everyday.

It is extremely important to be aware of and control gestational diabetes, so if you have any suspicion or indication of this condition, immediately consult your doctor. You can damage the health of you and your baby if you do not seek treatment for your gestational diabetes. Your doctor may prescribe certain medications that are safe to take during pregnancy, and he can also advise you of what to eat.

Now that you know some tips for living with diabetes, you should be able to live a fulfilled life, while still staying as healthy as possible. It may be tough at times but it is important to follow the tips provided, so that you can control your diabetes symptoms, rather than have them control your life.
